RACING AT NEW SMYRNA

As Amanda went out for her first practice session yesterday afternoon the team held its breath, hoping the fuel issue had been resolved. Fortunately, the car ran great with no more fuel issues. Amanda lined up in the 9th position for the start, but somehow just before the green flag dropped her radio came unplugged. This didn't phase Amanda who has never raced with radio communications before. Amanda knew she had a lot of work to do so she began running her line and making her way forward. The first 11 laps went smoothly until a lapped car made a sudden lane change just as Amanda began passing him. In order to avoid contact she locked up the brakes which sent her front end towards the flagman. Everyone held their breath but Amanda was able to save the car and continue on. This incident allowed the top 5 cars to pull away from Amanda who was running in 6th place. On lap 21 the first and only caution came out for a car in the wall in turn 3. This caution enabled Amanda to reconnect her radio and she was finally able to communicate with Doug. On the restart, Amanda was able to pass the #97 on the high side taking over the 5th place position. This is where she would run for the remaining 9 laps. Special thanks go to Keith and Tommy for making the trip from Tampa to be at her first race. Also, thanks to Doug and Kenny with Phase 1 Motorsports for their persistence and hard work in getting the car ready to race. Finally, thanks to Rick and Eagle Jet International for believing in Amanda and supporting her transition into a stock car.
